Everyone is feeling really sad at the moment. Our international friends are leaving starting from today. A german girl said she would be really devasted by the end of the week because it is painful to see all her friends leaving one by one everyday. God knows when we would ever see each other But be thankful for the chance in meeting these awesome people. This is inevitable. This is life. In exactly 4 hours, we would have our last party. Pals, cherish the moment!!

Didn't do much over the weekend. Went to a party (again; they have parties every week) and the spanish/mexicans made some "Sangria" for us. Basically, Sangria is made with red wine, fruits and citrus flavored soda. So, it kinda taste good for people who dun like the sour taste of wine. Well, I was invited to a hot tub session with a couple of friends on Saturday. But was too tired and politely declined the invitation. Organiser told me we have to be nude in the hot tub. Though I reckon no one would skinny dip...LOL...*shrugs Packing my stuffs for my 5-day stay at NYC! Don't miss me too much...I'll be back next week! Here I come biggggggggggg appppleeeeeeee!!!!

Hi pals! How are you guys doing? Its been a really boring week for me. Nothing happening other than books. Fell a little sick over the week cuz of the changing weather but I'm fine now. There was an international food nite again on Friday though. Heng ah...No horrendous goreng pisang. Picked up a box of pork floss from an asian supermarket and made pork floss bread. Clever right? Simple and delicious! hahaha... Found out from a Japanese girl that a direct translation of my Chinese to Japanese would be : en tonku Looking forward to the NYC Trip!!! November 23! I just can't get enough of krispy kreme. Call me a krispy kreme fan....I eat them every week! Its so fat and unhealthy...but irresistibleeee! Heres what I found: ~~Nutrional values~~ 'Sure Fat' values of 1 original glazed doughnut: 200 calories 12g fat 22g carbs 2g protein Basically, it is a little more than deep-fried, bleached starch, coated in pure sugar. Perfect for spiking our insulin levels... And it doesn't help that there is a new krispy kreme counter in my college! My mom revealed that my face got 'rounder' during our last conference chat. And I realized my pants are getting tighter...... While Cruz is sweating it out in Singapore, I'm piling on the pounds (all in the wrong places). This is for you, Tut....DROOL!!

Been lazing around in my room today.... Read 1 article. Dozed off on bed. Woke up (but still sleepy). Surf net. Read another article. Sleeping soon again....hahaha.. Had sushi dinner with a few mexicans and germans on Saturday. David, the mexican, is really a good chef. I was overwhelmed by how fully-equipped his kitchen is! He made us a couple of sushi. Went for a dinner in an American home last night. Hosts were friendly and food was really delicious.... but was disturbed by XXX's words. Well, XXX is also can exchange student from YYY country (hint: Asian country). Trying not to appear cold, I asked her why she came. She replied, "Actually, I came here solely for the free dinner. I dun really like the discussion groups". -- wah lao...can she at least be more tactful? And then she asked if I had participated in the lucky draw... I said, "No..what for? We already have one in our dormitory". (shamelessly) She replied, "I can sell the microwave away if I won it" -- By the way, it was a used microwave and it was given to foreign students who really need it. (side note: She had 2 ang moh boyfriends since she came here in August)

American Classes

Have you ever had a class cancelled because there were too few students in class? Well, it happened to me today. I was the first student present in class. (I mean first person actually...cuz professor was not there yet). Anyway, it turned out that out of a class of about 30 students, only 11 students attended today's class! Don't really know why they didnt attend...but personally if I don't attend his class, it will be.... 1. Since the final exam is not going to be on his lectures/textbook, why attend the class? (The final exam would be on the 3 articles that he distributed in class during the semester. I wonder why I bought the textbook for) 2. Since you already know the lectures are not going to be in the exam, why attend classes? 3. Bascially since you won't pay attention in class cuz you know lecture materials aren't important, why attend the class? 4. Since lecturer is not going to take our attendance, why attend the class? 5. Since you are going to sleep in class, why attend the class? Side note: I have never missed any of his class. :)

Christian Next up...its our international pot luck dinner. As you guys know, I can't cook at all. So, I was thinking about some really simple, local dishes. And goreng pisang came to my mind. Well, fried bananas mah....just get bananas...dip in flour...fry it...can liao lor! (Easier said than done) Just to make sure I'm able to make a presentable dish on Saturday, I was practicing with Xin from China on Friday. Nevermind that it didn't turn out the way it should look like. But it does taste like (well, a little bit..LOL) what we have in Singapore.

First haircut in 2 months here.... Was prepared to get a kuku hairstyle...... Kinda resigned to fate when punky hairstylist started cutting my hair..... OH? Have I told ya how much it cost? Well.....US$20 for an ugly haircut. US$20....SGD$34.....I can at least get a decent haircut from a professional hairstylist in Orchard, Singapore!....&#%@^&#$$!!!!! (maybe not David Gan..but at least not from an american ah-lian)

Fall Break Weekend Feast

Hello pals! Last day of Fall Break here and I'm resting at home. Its been a fun weekend for me in ~~Greensboring~~ Greensboro. Went shopping most of the time and visited Gilford Courthouse. "The battle fought at Guilford Courthouse was the largest and most hotly contested action of the Revolutionary War's Southern Campaign. It is considered the high-water mark of that campaign in that it changed the course of the war and contributed to the eventual American victory at Yorktown seven months later." Not really interesting for those of you who don't like history. But the highlight of the weekend was shopping and eating. LOL Shopping: Didn't buy much...just an old navy t-shirt and a jacket for sister...But visited quite a number of american stores such as Abercrombie & Fitch, Gap and American Eagle Food:This is the highlight of the weekend...LOL...This is the rundown of the food that I had.. Saturday: Dinner @ The Crab House (Yummy scale: 4/5) Southwest Chicken Sandwich Grilled chicken breast topped with Monterey Jack cheese, crisp bacon, fresh avocado and served on Ciabatta bread. Accompanied with our house-made potato chips Sunday: Breakfast @ IHOP (Yummy scale: 5/5) International Passport International flavor! Two eggs (sunny side up), two bacon strips, two pork sausage links and two Buttermilk pancakes. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm~~~~~~ Lunch @ McDonald's (Yummy scale: 1/5) *puke Double cheese burger combo meal - SIANzzzz Dinner @ Ruby Tuesday (Yummy Scale: 4.5/5) ORIGINAL Super Sampler Loaded cheese fries, classic Tuesday tenders and fried cheese sticks. Served with smoky honey Dijon and marinara dipping sauces. Baked Chicken Parmesan Pasta Pasta tossed with Alfredo sauce, fried chicken breast strips and marinara sauce, then smothered with Parmesan-Romano and Swiss cheeses and baked. (can't finish up the penne pasta though..was really full) Yummy....*rubs stomach*

I have been going to the library these days to study (what else? LOL) on the 2nd level and have always noticed this black male walking around/ sleeping on the couch.... It didn't really bother me even though he smells really badly when he passes by. I guess he is probably homeless. But OMG! I was browsing my campus police website (http://police.uncg.edu) when I noticed this pic on the "LOOKOUT" list. Boy, was I shocked at what I found! Friday!! OMG...time flies this week! Didn't join the rest of my friends who are going to a bar cuz I'm busy studying now. Anyway, I've just sent postcards to all of you (ermm...not exactly all...cuz I dunno some of your addresses)! But but but.... some of you may have to pay the balance of postage...LOL Well, the story goes like this... I sent the postcards in 2 batches (Yes, alotttt of postcards)... The first batch of postcards cost US$0.70cents.... The second batch of postcards cost US$0.82cents... Why the difference? Cuz the blur mailroom auntie didn't check if my postcards were oversized when I sent the first batch of postcards. The next day I went back to the mailroom, the smarter auntie told me they are oversized and I have to pay additional $$. I will pay you guys back SG$0.30 back when I return :) My american suite mate just pasted a poster of himself on his door...check it out... on closer look.........

Dear family and friends, I'm safe and sound. I doubt Hurricane Ophelia is going to hit us at Greensboro because we are far from the coast and that it is a Catergory 2 hurricane (as opposed to Hurricane Katrina which is Catergory 5). I'm just busy with school these days and nothing new to update on this blog actually. LOL. Well seriously, there are really alot of quizes, tests and mid-term exams coming up. I have a mid-term exam this Thursday, a quiz this Friday and a test coming Monday. So work is really piling up now for me and I havent been studying during the first few weeks here. Biltmore Estate

Just came back from the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. OMG...it is really hugeeeeeeee....8,000 acres!!! 250 rooms in the Biltmore house!!! Well, let me give you a brief history class on this Biltmore house: George Vanderbilt, owner of the Estate, was the grandson of "The Coomondore" Cornelius Vanderbilt. The family owns a vast fortune in shipping and railroads. The Biltmore house was built in 1889 with 250 rooms in all! I was really taken by surprise that they actually lived in such luxury at that time. There are not any differences between the bathroom then and now. Even the maids and servants had good living conditions! To prove my point, they even had a swimming pool (heated), a 2-lane bowling alley (mannual arrangement of pins though), fully-equiped kitchen, gym (free weights, shower room etc) and mahjong (yes! didn't know mahjong was already invented at that time!) As photo taking in the Biltmore house is prohibited, here are some of the pictures I took when I was outside. I did take some pics illegally with my camera phone. 'Pop' Quiz

The Americans call it "Pop Quiz", we call it "Spring Test" or Surprise Test.... And guess what? I had one Pop Quiz today! OMG..I was really taken by surprise man! I never had one in Singapore. I wanted to know if I'm the only one who didn't study, so I observed the rest of my classmates' expressions. To my dismay, they didnt look shocked at all! I guess they were either well prepared or trying to act 'cool' just like me. LOL. I was really scared as I wasnt sure of the topics but I displayed my superb acting skills - 'Act cool,calm and steady'. In fact, my heart was beating fast! Well..as expected..I didnt know most of the questions. Hopefully all turn out well! *PRAYS* P/S: There was no mention that there would be pop quizzes in the semester. I had 1 quiz last week which was announced to us few days in advance. Well, I'm going to Asheville, NC tomorrow! This is the castle I'm going to: Biltmore Estate. Back on Monday! Laters

After 3 weeks of study in the USA....this is what I observed and appreciate.... 1. Kudos to Singapore's transport system! I really understand the chinese proverb now ("身在福中不知福") cuz the transport system in NC is sooooooooooo bad! There arent even cabs around...you have to book them in advance! But then again....US has very good inter-state highways....They can link you all the way from the East to the West. 2. I just took a "Media Studies" test today. OMG....all the questions on the review sheet came out! And thats it! No surprise questions! The questions they ask are co-related..and kinda dumb I think. Let me give you an example: What is a fire alarm that disturbs a reader? a) Semantic noise b) Mechanical noise c) Environmental noise - Answer __________ happens when your pen runs out of ink? a) Semantic noise b) Mechanical noise - Answer c) Environmental noise As long as you don't repeat your answer twice..and know for sure at least 2 of the options..you will get all 3 questions right! 3. The black community are more fashionable then the white community. Period 4. Toilet paper/Tissue paper. Yeah....it costs around US$8 for 3 boxes of tissue paper. Can you believe that? 5. Cant remember the rest of the points I wanna say...anyway...will update again!

Crime Alert

Was entering my residence hall when I chanced upon this notice on the entrance - "Crime Alert: Armed Robbery. 2 students were robbed by 2 black teenagers while on their way to New York Pizza restaurant (5mins from Campus)." I've been here for 3 weeks and this is the first time a crime actually took place near campus....ARMED with HANDGUNS somemore! hehe... Anyway, the 2 students were unhurt *phew*. Been busy with school for this past week...and so not much interesting stuffs to pin on this blog...LOL. But I went over to a German's house on Saturday evening to hang around. This German (Martin) graduated from my college and is presently working in the USA. I was apprehensive at first...about going to his place because 1) I dunno him (he didn't invite me) 2) I wondered if its an All-German party. But thankfully, there are several non-germans too..so at least I could communicate with the rest while the germans are speaking in their native language! It was fun...but I got tired..and wanted to go back to my apartment. But ALAS! I dun wanna walk back alone...hahhaa...especially after hearing that piece of news (though its just a 10mins walk)! Fortunately, Dorian wanted to leave too...so I got a ride from her back home.

False Alarm

Just came back from an American home. It is very a hospitable family...they invited all the international students to her place for dinner. Anyway, her house is HUGE!!! Its a pity I didnt carry my camera with me...its beautiful! She has a games room, a garage, an entertainment room, huge living hall.....typical american home you see in movies! Anyway, we were chatting in her house when someone told me Tower Village's (my residence hall) fire alarm was activated last night (3:30am). I was like "WTF??!!...how come I didn't know at all???"..."How come my roomies never wake me up???!!" ..."What if its a real fire? I would be BURNT!!"...haha Thankfully, its a false alarm. And these are the conclusions I made: 1. I slept like a pig. 2. Tobias - In a bar 3. Jeffery - In Asheville for a friend's birthday 4. Jeremy - Out with friends at Wal-Mart (24hours) 5. Clark - ~~Dunno his whereabouts last nite~~ 28/08: He was around and didnt wake me up!!! WTF!

Tuberculosis

It is part of a requirement from the US health service that I have to do a TB skin test in USA even if I had one done in Singapore. The lump on my forearm got big and when I returned to get it checked, it says I'm positive! WTF..every kid in Singapore has a BCG vaccine done when they are 12 years of age! BTW, most US residents do not have BCG vaccine. So, I had to do a chest x-ray to double comfirm. And yep... I'M PERFECTLY OK! The positive reaction was because of my vaccination with BCG. But but but...it does not end there. The people here are so jittery! They wanna put me on medication for 9 months! C'mon...I'll just be here for 5months...so do I have to continue by medication when I return to Singapore? This is so ABSURD!

Just went for rock climbing at the recreation center in school. First time.....so was a little scared..but wanna try! haha... So I went with Christian at bout 4pm. I knew it would be hard but didnt realise the workout would be so intensive!!! I was 20mins on the rocks when my forearms were aching like hell!!! But but but...I'm so happy I did manage to reach the top of the rocks and hit the bell!!! HENG AH! If not, paisay! :P Well, that was the first try. For the second attempt, we went on to challenge ourselves by only clinging on the rocks with white stripes..so basically we dun have a choice to determine which rock we wanna cling on. MAN! It was damn tough..I was halfway through and I found I wasnt tall enough to grab one of the rock! LOL...I tried jumping..but failed....twice! Anyway, its super hot here in North Carolina. Thanks to my persistent mom, half of the clothings in my baggage are for winter. So, I think I have to go shopping for some shorts soon...:)

Have been hearing bout America's Krispy Kreme doughnuts for years and have always wanted to taste it! OMG...its really good!! I've never eaten such tasty doughnuts..it just melts in your mouth when you bite it. Mmmmm..so tasty! But its kinda fatty...so...:P Yum Yum :-)~~~~~ Anyway, just came back from Piney Lake. Its part of our campus I think cuz theres a UNCG sign in entrance..but its kinda far. Had picnic and some games before it rained..and we had to go back. Last day of orientation :( Back to school tomorrow!!!

Its Oliver's birthday (an actor from Mexico) today! And i forgot! I only realised during the evening..when I wanted to shower/get ready for bed. Anyway, they came over to hangout and for beer (YES! beer again). Dorian, the exchange program coordinator, was around too. Actually, it was her who phoned and asked if I wanted to hang out..hehe. Yep..Dorian knows a little bit of Mandarin so we sang a chinese birthday song for Oliver. Well, I did have a cup of vodka cum haiwaiian punch and a can of beer. Didnt wanna drink beer though..cuz i hate it..but Oliver insisted...so..... Oh yeah....heres a link to Oliver's film (Spanish film: "ASI")...it is nominated in the Venice Festival this September. Oh...one thing i noticed....I'm the only guy who showers at nite...the rest of them only shower in the mornings.. Last point: Some of them kinda sterotype asians...hehehe..cuz when I wore the "orgy" shirt..Dorian was like "OMG...why are you wearing this??!!!" Another guy thought this shirt is banned in Singapore..LOL

Ok...now I understand why people say the germans are beer addicts. My german roomie came home at 3am from a bar...DRUNK! As if its not enough....he continued drinking with his german pals in the living room. I'm not disturbed..just shocked! By the way, hes a nice guy. Forgot a roomie's name (Jeffery) yesterday and was embarassed to ask him again. I know him name now...after my last roomie (Jeremy) moved in..LOL. Anyway, Jeffery is a very quiet guy...some of you may think I'm quiet...but hes worsed! FOR REALS! Well, not much happened today...paid student bill, helped a rich german girl (cuz shes still staying in hotel....and her dad rented a car for her!) find the recreation centre...am gonna find something to eat later :)

Ok...this is the 2nd post today..but i have to write it down before i forget...this is so funny... So i woke up this morning...and go for my usual morning potty. As u know...3 room mates have not arrived yet...and my other MBA room mate left for class..so I'm alone. While I was *shitting*, this new american roomie checked in......and i knew it..cuz i heard sounds... But i continued with what i was doing...and after i was done, ....opened the door....and OMG...he was standing in front of me.....introducing himself to me...and guess what...he reached his hand over and wanted to shake my hands!!!! I have not even cleaned/washed my hands!!! But being the courteous me (and since he didnt mind! haha) , I shaked his hand.... BTW, just told Cruz on msn that one of the exchange students that I know is from Mexico..and hes an actor...Hes gonna go to the Venice Festival in September..cuz his film was nominated. AND NO...hes not calafe (think: "Helen sitting on wheelchair in "Baby Blues") ! I'll get the link to the website asap if ur interested to know :P Ok..gonna get ready for library orientation liao...and OH YES! the books here are super duper expensive...twice the costs in SG!!! :(

Yep. Thank you Cruz for helping! LOL Hi all!!!OMG....(not WTF anymore :P) Its been a hectic week....lots of bo liaoz orientation....not enough sleep cuz of jet lag (yeah still having jetlag..but still thinking of you guys :P).... socialising (very unlikeme..but bo bian..LOL)......and eating bread (burgers and all...feel kinda sick of it already...)Yeah thats about all....Have not really wander around the city..but but but....WTF...no transport system...its either I walk around or take cab...and its si bei far from campus....prolly like a 5km walk!!!I just hope my american roomies own cars..so can lobang (EDIT: LONG BANG not lobang...yeah forgot my singlish..LOL)...hahahaha....oh yeah..btw..
